Waltzes
Ballads and Airs
Imagine
yourself in an elegant drawing room; soft candlelight
scattered from a thousand crystals of the chandelier -
a flute and guitar blending in a melody from some by gone
era. Perhaps it is a composition from Turlough O'Carolan,
the blind 17th century Irish harpist. Or perhaps that
most romantic of melodies, a lilting waltz.
In
Waltzes, Ballads and Airs Suzanne and Jim have assembled
an exquisite program of dulcet selections - heart songs
of the 19th century, Appalachian ballads and haunting
airs. A favorite composition from Elizabethan England,
"Green Sleeves", set to the flute and five string
banjo, would have Shakespeare's Falstaff humming along.
During the course of this musical journey the audience
will visit works from America, Ireland, Scotland, and
Wales, as well as England.
The
duet's musical dexterity is brought to the fore when they
perform on the courting dulcimer -an American musical
invention designed to be played by two people at the same
time. Suzanne's award winning vocal style will be showcased.
The beauty of her unaccompanied singular voice will be
highlighted in an acapella piece.
Waltzes, Ballads and Airs is a program designed for discriminating
audiences who appreciate fine music delivered with a unique
flair. This concert may be presented to any size audience.
