Suzanne and Jim are full time professional
entertainers with deep roots in the American Tradition
of travelling minstrelsy. Since 1992 they have been full
time travelers and their current house is a 30-foot class
C motor home. Call it wheel estate, they do!
Over the years they have felt privileged
to take their music into more than 30 states. Suzanne
and Jim have appeared at a variety of public and private
venues (see BUZZ for more information)
from festivals, community events, libraries, historic
theme parks, schools, house concerts, camps, churches,
coffeehouses and activity centers just to mention a few.
Suzanne is rapidly gaining a national reputation
as a song stylist. Her powerful rich voice is suited equally
to sentimental ballads and cowgirl yodels. Suzanne has
been a repeat first place winner at the prestigious Mount
Airy, North Carolina Fiddlers Convention in Folk Songs
category. Originally from Michigan, Suzanne spent many
years in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina immersed
in Old Time Music and clog dancing.
Suzanne is an
accomplished percussionist, creating complex rhythms with
her clogging and other rhythm implements such as spoons
and bones, as well as playing flute and rhythm guitar.
For Jim Hale, music
was a family event during his youth. Two of his aunts
were well known in their small Kansas town for performing
at community functions and he began accompanying them
at an early age. Jim has adapted the difficult clawhammer
method of playing the 5-string banjo to a variety of musical
settings. Jim has not only been a winner of many banjo
contests but his banjo playing has been featured in the
Warner Brothers made for TV mini-series "The Wild West".
